Install & questions
How to install (Mac, 2 minutes)
-
Run the installer
Double-click
Serpent-Installer.pkgand click through. It puts the VST3, AU and Standalone app in the standard folders. -
If macOS blocks it
Serpent isn't notarized by Apple yet. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway next to Serpent-Installer and confirm. Older macOS: right-click the .pkg → Open → Open.
-
Rescan in your DAW
- FL Studio: Options → Manage plugins → Find installed plugins.
- Ableton Live: Settings → Plug-Ins → Use VST3 Plug-In System Folders on → Rescan.
- Logic / GarageBand: restart. It's under AU Instruments → Synthetik.
Still won't load? (fallback fix)
Open Terminal, paste this, enter your Mac password, then rescan:
sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Serpent.vst3 /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Serpent.component /Applications/Serpent.app
Logic only: Settings → Plug-in Manager → select Serpent → Reset & Rescan Selection.
Is it really free?
Yes. No trial, no paywalled presets. We just ask for an email once to unlock downloads.
Mac or Windows? Which DAWs?
Mac (Apple Silicon + Intel: VST3, AU, Standalone) and Windows 64-bit (VST3, Standalone). Works in any DAW that loads VST3 or AU: FL Studio, Ableton, Logic, GarageBand, Bitwig, Reaper, Studio One. No Pro Tools (AAX).
Why does macOS warn me?
Apple warns about any app that isn't notarized through their paid program. Use Open Anyway as shown in How to install.
